GENESIS WEST PRESENTS TURNIP FAMILY SECRETS Directed by Deanne Anders Genesis West proudly announces the premiere production of "Turnip Family Secrets," a new play with songs by Michael Smith, with music by Joe Woodard. A fair tale for grownups, "Turnip Family Secrets" is full of surprises as a fearsome Giant terrorizes an idealistic family in their placid home and a peace-loving Turnip Fairy comes to their aid. Santa Barbara favorites Fred Lehto and Paula Re play Cal and Bess, with Geren Piltz as their son David. Talented seven-year-old Andrew McCafferty appears as the Giant and the Fairy. The director is Deanne Anders, acclaimed for Santa Barbara Youth Theatre's productions including "The Diviners" and "Dracula." Sets are by Yadi Zeavin, costumes by Mary Gibson. Michael Smith, the playwright and lyricist, is the author of more than 20 plays, including the recent "Trouble" and "Dogs Bark All Night." Joe Woodard, composer of the many songs, is the guitarist-leader of Headless Household, a Santa Barbara band whose annual Christmas concerts at Center Stage Theater are a community institution. Headless Household's keyboardist, Dick Dunlap, and percussionist, Tom Lackner, will perform live for "Turnip Family Secrets," along with bassist Jim Connolly.
