Monday, December 13, 8:00 P.M. HOUSEHOLD INK PRESENTS but that doesn't make it any less extraordinary." ...**** (four stars)
The concert will also be a CD release party for the group's fifth album: called mockhausen, it's a collection of outtakes, improvisation, and other artful noises, and is the least "commercial" one yet. The discography: Headless Household (1987), Inside/Outside USA (1993), Items (1996), and Free Associations (1999), mockhausen (2000-ish), all released on Household Ink Records. It began in 1983, making the Household the oldest Santa Barbara group with a continuous personnel--we think. It has been described as "the band that won't go away." A decade ago, weary of playing in the odd club and concert settings, the band began its series of Xmas concerts at Center Stage, then the new black box theater in town. Audiences grew and tradition set in, and now, the concert is sometimes the band's only performance in a given year (which helps account for the band's longevity). The group has been, and remains: Dick Dunlap, keyboards, Tom Lackner, percussions, Chris Symer, basses, Joe Woodard, guitars. Guests at this year's concert will include Glen Phillips, Ellen Turner, Allegra Heidelinde, vocals, Nate Birkey and Jeff Kaiser, trumpet, Tom Buckner, saxophones, and others to suit.
