SANTA BARBARA
YOUTH THEATRE PRESENTS
FOOTLOOSE
Musical directed by Deanne Anders
Once again Santa Barbara Youth Theatre demonstrates the talent, energy,
and professionalism of our city's youth as they present the musical Footloose.
Deanne Anders, Artistic Director of Santa Barbara Youth Theatre, directs
this compelling tale of teenage rebellion and the struggle to overcome well-intentioned
but misguided oppression.
Ren is the free-spirited city kid from Chicago who moves with his mom
to Bomont, a religious town in Texas where dancing and rock music is prohibited.
As Ren tries to fit in, he battles the fears, misconceptions and the misunderstandings
that come from being the "new kid." With his new friends, Ariel,
the high spirited daughter of the minister who created the ban on dance
and music and the down to earth Willard, who shows him that living in a
small town has its advantages, Ren finds his way, discovers how to stand
up for his beliefs, and revitalizes the spirit of the town.
Santa Barbara Youth Theatre's production features many new and returning
faces. Adam Trent, the proverbial triple threat performer, plays Ren McCormack.
Adam, a 2nd year SBCC drama student, has been with Santa Barbara Youth Theatre
for the past 5 seasons. His zany Hysterium from last season's A Funny
Thing Happened On The Way to the Forum, had the audience cheering.
Elizabeth Anderson, another triple threat performer, and Santa Barbara
Youth Theatre veteran, portrays the edgy preacher's daughter, Ariel. Elizabeth
most recently graced the Santa Barbara Youth Theatre stage as Benvolio in
this winter's production of Romeo and Juliet. Last seen as malevolent
Shak Graa in Starmites, Erik Finck returns to Santa Barbara
Youth Theatre as the determined and strong willed Reverend Shaw Moore. Reverend
Moore's emotional journey dynamically juxtaposes that of Ren's which gives
Footloose much of its heart and compassion
Other cast members include Nick Sullberg as Willard, Lucia Gill as Vi
Moore, Madison James as Rusty, Mike Curtis as Cranston and making her Santa
Barbara Youth Theatre debut Danielle Braus as Ethel McCormack.
Joining Ms. Anders are Alexander Georgakis, Musical Director, E. Bonnie
Lewis and Leslie Sack, choreographers, Elise Unruh, conductor, Heather Grosch,
costumer, Amanda Dwyer stage manager and Brad Spaulding, Technical Director.
As with all Santa Barbara Youth Theatre productions, many of the production
staff members have gone through the Youth Theatre ranks starting out as
technical support and becoming costumers, dance captains, stage managers
or musical directors. The caliber and quality of the Santa Barbara Youth
Theatre experience enables many of our performers and participants to go
on to enjoy higher education and/or professional work in the performing
arts arena.
Footloose, the musical, delivers what audiences expect, and much more.
The production takes the film's amazing core of material and transforms
it, creating a theatrical presentation which is familiar and, at the same
time, brand new.
Join Santa Barbara Youth Theatre as they bring a bit of Americana to
Center Stage Theater. Experience and enjoy the energy, passion and humor
of Footloose!
